with deep regret that NORCECA Confederation informs of the death
of USA beach volleyball referee Dan Apol after suffering a
stroke while conducting a match in his native country.
The international referee community is in shock with this sudden

outstanding member.
Mr. Apol twice participated as referee in the Olympic Games and
in many FIVB World Tour tournaments as well as at Pan American
Games and NORCECA Circuit.
“He was a great referee, a great human being and a great
friend,” said Jose Ramón Perez Vento, president of the NORCECA
Refereeing Commission. “He was a great one among the greats.”
“Needless to say we are under
shock with this sudden loss,” said veteran referee Andre
Trottier. “On behalf of all us I would like to express my
condolences to all my USA friends, especially to his wife Bonnie
and to all our NORCECA referees. We have lost both an amazing
referee but also a dear friend.” |
