ST LUCIA, June 11,
2015 – Last Sunday brought close to 60 children interested in
Beach Volleyball to the Pigeon Island Beach to enjoy a one day
Cool Beach Volleyball Festival organized by the St. Lucia
Volleyball Association and the recent successful participants in
the FIVB Beach Volleyball Grassroots Course which was held in
St. Lucia May 24-28, 2015.
The FIVB has
encouraged National Federations to host Volley All Festivals and
this year the St. Lucia Volleyball Association decided to host a
Cool Beach Volleyball Festival as its contribution to the global
event. Students from eleven Secondary Schools from across St.
Lucia each with at least two students took part in the event.
The Festival was planned during the Beach Volleyball Grassroots
Course with participants responsible for getting players from
the school to participate. The Festival was run by the Teacher
Coaches.
The Festival
components included a clinic led by the Teacher Coaches, a
series of games among the students and then handover of T-shirts
to the students for the photo shoot and then the presentation of
some volleyball equipment by the Association to the Teachers who
successfully completed the Beach Volleyball Course a week
earlier.
President of the St.
Lucia Volleyball Association, Brian Louisy, thanked the teachers
for the commitment and support demonstrated by the turnout of
students as well as Coaches. He also applauded the many Junior
and Youth National Players who came out to the Beach in support
of the festival to help coach, coordinate and demonstrate at the
Festival.
Louisy indicated that
this Festival was just one in more festivals to come and
promised that the Association will support the teachers and the
schools as the strategy of the Association for the development
of the sport of Volleyball is to work through the school system.
Meanwhile the
Association and Coaches thanked International Volleyball
Federation (FIVB) appointed Avelino Azevedo from Portugual who
facilitated the five (5) day course, the week before and whose
admonishments continue to inspire the participants. Special
thanks went out to the FIVB and NORCECA for making the course
and the equipment possible. |
