MANAGUA, Nicaragua, February 22, 2016 -
Six Beach Volleyball Festivals for the preparation of the
national teams that will participate at the Olympic qualifiers
and the NORCECA Tour, were announced by the Nicaraguan
Volleyball Federation.
Bertha Cuadra, president of the FNVB, said the starting on
February 21, the beach volleyball will have actions at the sand
courts of the Nicaraguan Sports Institute. The National Tour
also includes stops in San Juan del Sur, Pochomil and Granada,
before the big Final in San Juan del Sur.
“The final will take place in San Juan del Sur during the Holy
Week with the best ranked players. Each pair will add points in
the Festivals, which are independent,” Cuadra said.
“With these events our national pairs will have space to prepare
for the Olympic qualifiers in May, with the women in El Salvador
and the men in St Lucia. We also will have at least four stops
in the NORCECA Tour, the first of them in Guatemala next March,”
the president said.
The National Tour will serve off on Sunday with at least 12
pairs per gender, divided into groups, then advancing to the
single elimination for the semifinals and finals.
Stops of Tour NORCECA
Cuadra said they are dealing with the private corporations, the
national government and the municipal government of San Juan del
Sur to host one of the stages of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball
Tour next July.
“Nicaragua once was part of the NORCECA Tour and we want to
organize it again, but the investment is big. Now we are
requesting the support of everyone, the private enterprise and
the government to have it. That might give us a great boost as
more than 16 countries will be represented and some of them will
be already qualified to the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games,” she
said.
San Juan del Sur, one of the biggest tourism destinations of
Nicaragua, already was the site of the first round of Olympic
qualifiers last year as well as of the Central American Beach
Volleyball Championships, and it has a great number of hotels
and touristic services for the visitors.
Besides that, it is the home place of the best pairs of the
sport in Nicaragua, the Central American champions in the junior
and senior categories. |
