Belize defeats Nicaragua with impressive blocking
BELIZE CITY, Belize, September 27, 2016.- Host Belize held an
impressive 21-3 margin in blocking to defeat Nicaragua 3-1
(29-27, 21-25, 25-22, 25-20) at the AFECAVOL Men’s FIVB World
Championship qualification tournament in St. Catherine Academy
Center.
Belize celebrated their third victory in front of a noisy crowd
while blocking Nicaragua all the way and spectacular 28 points
by Karym Coleman. Nicaragua’s 7-4 advantage in serves and 42
points on Belizean errors weren’t enough to stop the home team
from winning. Belize also did better in attacking by 48-42.
Nicaragua minimized their errors to 27 points.
Joining Karym Coleman in the winning campaign were outside
hitters Bryton Codd with 15 points and Keith Castillo with 13
points. Nicaragua’s offense was led by outside hitter Tito
Valdivia with 18 points, while middle blocker Bryan Orozco and
outside hitter David Arias added 9 points apiece.
On Wednesday, Nicaragua (0-3) faces Panama (1-3) and Belize
(3-1) plays to Dominican Republic (2-1). |
