Belize gets ahead for the first time ever at NORCECA Beach
LA PAZ, Mexico, June 7, 2019. - Bryton Codd and Francis Hauze
with two victories, gets Belize ahead for the first time ever at
the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour at the fifth leg of the event
being held in La Paz, Mexico.
Bryton Codd and Francis Hauze made a spectacular team debut,
delivering Belize with not only one but two historic wins at the
NORCECA Beach Tour. Codd and Hauze kicked off pool C winning 2-0
(21-11, 21-19) to Jon Isaacs and Muller Petit of Bahamas
followed by a thrilling overtime 2-1 (19-21, 21-17, 15-13)
victory to experienced Tato and Pepe of El Salvador.
Jesus Alcazar alongside Francisco Tamayo of Mexico also claimed
two victories in pool C, defeating Tato and Pepe 2-0 (21-16,
21-18) and Isaacs/Muller 2-0 (21-13, 21-9).
It was a sunny day also for Canada’s Mathew Donovan and Fiodar
Kazhamiaka winning in their two outings in pool B. First over
Shawb Seabrookes/Everson Browne of St. Kitts and Nevis 2-0
(21-14, 21-14) followed by an important win to second seeded
Nicaraguan Ruben Mora and Dany Lopez 2-0 (21-12, 21-15).
Last year’s gold medalist here in La Paz, Mexican Angel
Cardenas, took down Shawb and Everson 2-0 (21-11, 21-6) with
Juan Espinoza; after falling to Nicaragua’s Mora and Lopez 2-0
(21-16, 21-18) in pool B.
Kyle Friend and Travis Mewhirter of United States join the
double winners leading pool D winning two exciting tie-breakers.
The US guys finished the day with a comeback victory to
Mexico’s Angel Sarabia and Raymond Stephens battling tightly 2-1
(17-21, 24-22, 15-11). Friend and Mewhirter also won the North
American clash to Canada’s Liam Kopp and Gabriel Burlacu 2-1
(21-14, 19-21, 15-9) who beat Jorday Lake/Miguel Lopez of U.S.
Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-7, 21-9).
Top-seeds Guatemalan Andy Leonardo and Luis Garcia downed
Central American rivals Sebastian Valenciano and Andrey Quintero
winning a marathon first set 29-27, followed by 21-14 for the
2-0 final score in pool A. Earlier, Valenciano and Quintero
opened the event beating Richard Campbell and Nathan Dack of
Cayman Islands by 2-0 (21-14, 21-14).
Pool-play continues from Playa del Malecon of La Paz on
Saturday, followed by the quarterfinal matches to decide the
semifinal spots.
