Belize had no mercy for Honduras

 

BELIZE CITY, Belize, July 19, 2023.- Belize had no mercy for Honduras with their victory 3-0 (25-13/25-12/25-09) in the closing match of day four at the XIV AFECAVOL Women’s U19 Central American Championship.

 

Belize widely dominated the match. In the first set they kept the advantage without letting Honduras score from the first technical time-out (8-5) up to the second 16-5, ending 25-13 for Belize.

 

Belize was solid in the second set, overpowering a weak Honduras by 13 points, with a final score of 25-12.

 

An overwhelming 25-06 third set was the finishing where Belize asserted their local power with a huge advantage over Honduras.

 

With a difference of 21 points in attacks, Belize was overwhelming 35-14, followed by 7 to none in blocks. In serves the hosts were also superior 21-6, 15 points of difference.

 

Belize scored 12 points on opponent errors, while Honduras did 14 points thanks to Belizean errors.

 

The best scorer of Belize was Khaya Gordon with 16 points on 10 attacks, 2 blocks and four serves. For Honduras, the top scorer was Marynur Martínez with 6 points all on kills.

 

On Thursday Belize faces Nicaragua at 7:30pm and Honduras has the day off.
