Belize hosts National Referee Course

 

   

BELIZE CITY, Belize, May 6, 2015 - Fifteen referees from across Belize have completed the National Referee Course sponsored by NORCECA and led by FIVB Referee Instructor, Guy Bradbury, of Canada. 

 

The 4-day course commenced on Thursday, April 30 and concluded on Sunday, May 3 with the participants spending 8-hour days going through theoretical and practical sessions.

 

The course covered all aspects of the rules, including line judging, score sheets, libero control, discipline and sanctions, match control, mechanics of officiating and, of course, lots of discussion and videos on rules and specific situations. It concluded with a written exam. 

 

On Saturday evening, the participants got to use their recently acquired knowledge while officiating Division 1 matches as referees, line judges, and scorers, and then reviewed themselves on video on Sunday. 

 

The participants were Ray Palma, Leon Gentle, Javier Rosado, Werner Tovar, Glenn Gill, Anthony McField, Tisha Solis, Precelia Hoare, Khalid Encalada, Martin Swasey, Tichele Solis, Wallace Tillett, Elton Anderson, Shane Gentle, and Joslyn Gill. 

 

The course will improve the consistency, knowledge, and professionalism of Belize officials. 

 

The BVA intends to have a follow up course in February 2016 in preparation to hosting the Men’s Central American Championship in August of 2016.  The BVA thanked NORCECA for this course that has improved and motivated its officials.
