Belize rises to beat Guatemala
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, June 28, 2019 - Belize once again came from
behind and won 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-22) over Guatemala,
at the start of the sixth day of the IV Central American
Championship Sub 23 female volleyball.
The winners took advantage of their size to prevail at the net
with a good block and that gave rise to improve in the location
of the defense. Fatoumata Camara was the best for Belize with 20
points and Mya Musa with 16. For Guatemala, María Villagrán with
20 and María García with 16.
Guatemala was better in attack 55-45, in service 5-3, and was
surpassed in blocks 9-4, but also gave away 39 points for errors
with only 17 for Belize.
Belize reaches three wins with two losses and will play this
Saturday against El Salvador. Guatemala is 2-3 and the last
match of the tournament will be against Nicaragua.
José Fontes, coach of Belize: "Today was the game that we felt
most satisfied with the team. It was possible to stabilize the
three indispensable factors in volleyball: the service, the
complex 1 and the complex 2. Today we worked on the blockade, we
knew it was a do-or-die match to have chances to achieve a
medal."
"The work of the girls was homogeneous, there was no decisive
player, but if the center player Melanie Palacio joined us, she
made good blocks too. This competition is so close that it will
be defined with the last point of the last game of the last day,
still nobody has anything sure ". |
