Belize starts with victory against Honduras
CIUDAD QUESADA, Costa Rica, November 19, 2019 - Belize
started with a triumph in the XIII U18 Central American
Women's Volleyball Championship by defeating defending
champions Honduras 3-1 (26-24, 25-22, 15-25, 25-19),.
The Belizean team recovered from a four-point deficit in the
first set, to turn it around and keep the lead, despite
Honduras trying to overcome by winning the third. An injury
in the morning training of one of its players (Natalia
Reyes) and another during the game, was a tough blow for the
Hondurans.
Letisha Lamb, Jayda Smith and Captain Gareth Bruce kept
Belize in the fight thanks to their strong shots, while
Honduras Dazly Durán, Genesis Oyuela and Shantle Siliezar
stood out.
José Fontés, coach of Belize: “It was a very difficult game,
the players are being demanded because at times they do not
comply with the tactical discipline, but we left happy
because we recovered from that third set that was very easy
for Honduras. I want to congratulate Honduras that it has an
excellent team and was a worthy rival. ”
Caterine Leiva, coach of Honduras: “The team was upset since
this morning when our first middle blocker was injured,
there is some emotion, the girls are very emotional, they
won a set and unfortunately the next set could not be played
with the same intensity, with the same enthusiasm. You have
to recover the team emotionally for tomorrow's game against
Costa Rica, especially trying to overcome the impact of two
injuries.”
