SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 20,
2022 - The stellar Dominican volleyball player
Bethania de la Cruz has just been crowned
champion of the United States League "Athletes
Unlimited" that concluded last Saturday with the
Santo Domingo native setting numerous records in
the second edition of the event.
The tournament's evaluation system mixes
individual and collective achievements
accumulated during five weeks in which the
composition of the squads varies.
Bethania, who finished runner-up in the first
version of the event in 2021 behind Jordan
Larson, served as team captain through all five
periods of action and won the title by a wide
margin by amassing 4,652 points.
De la Cruz was followed by setter Natalia
Valentin-Anderson (3,337), Dani Drews (3,308),
Cassidy Lichtman (3,279) and Nootsara Tomkom
(3,207).
The member of the national women's volleyball
team popularly known as "The Queens of the
Caribbean" led the league in spikes with 233 and
in winning serves with 18 aces.
The outside hitter broke numerous marks set in
the first season, including most points
accumulated in a game (477), kills in a game
(27), aces in a game (4), aces in the season
(18), finishes for the season (233), total
points (4,652) and MVP honors in a season (13).
“Coming to play in this league and the fact that
I get to do it with my family and close to home
is something I really won't forget,” said
Bethania, whose best week was the fifth in which
she put up 1,291 points.
"It was special that my son was with me and
learned a lot about the game, it's very exciting
and he motivated me to play better," added the
world-class player. |
