Bethania de la Cruz, the new Dominican flagship
LIMA, Peru, June 14, 2013 - The Dominican Republic had no
problems to qualify to the next round at the Women’s Movistar
Pan American Cup in Peru after coming out of the first round as
the top-seeded team at the end of pool-play.
Bethania De la Cruz, the new captain of the Dominican Republic
played with a very aggressive touch and very consistently.
For the new captain of the team, the experience has been great
in the first round. However the best still lies ahead on the
second round.
“We will face more experienced players and we will see our real
level”, she stated before departing from Huacho to Lima.
The first goal was to finish in first place. The mission was
accomplished after leading the Pool C.
“We began against a very difficult rival like Brazil. They are
very young but have a lot of energy and technique. After that we
faced some other young rivals but not so experienced, and that
helped us to qualify to the second round”.
The team coached by Marcos Kwiek is granted a spot in the 2014
Grand Prix. The expectations are higher and they want to reach
the top at the end of this edition. “We want to reach the
podium, everybody wishes that, and we are not the exception.”
After the retirement of Milagros Cabral, after the Olympic Games
in London 2012, Bethania became the new captain of the Dominican
Team, a duty that is a matter of pride and responsibility at the
same time.
“I feel so proud about that. It is a big responsibility to take
the team on, to talk to my teammates and have them united. It is
a motive of pride to be the captain of the Dominican Republic,”
she concluded. |
