Bethania scores 20 in Dominican win over Belgium

 

NINGBO, China, June 29, 2014 – Bethania De la Cruz scored 20 points to lead the Dominican Republic to a victory over Belgium and the second place at the China Women’s International Tournament on Sunday.

 

After cruising in the first set, the Dominicans faced a valiant resistance from Belgium in a tough second set before prevailing 25-15, 27-25, 25-21.

 

De la Cruz included two blocks and one ace in her tally. Gina Mambru contributed 11 points in the victory while middle blockers Candida Arias and Marianne Fersola added 9 and 8 points, respectively.

 

Van Hecke finished with 18 points in the losing effort and Alberthes added 11.

 

Earlier on Sunday, China won the gold medal of the first segment by demolishing Thailand 25-13, 25-12, 25-11.

 

The same teams now move to the province of Shenzhou for the second part of the tournament on July 3-5.
