Bishop of Jamaica with all-round play
KINGSTON, Jamaica, July 26, 2017 - Tahleia Bishop turned in an
impressive all-round display on Wednesday night to guide Jamaica
to a 3-0 shut-out of US Virgin Islands on the opening night of
the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Round Three World
Championship Qualifying tournament.
Bishop registered eight kills in a team–leading 12 points and
came up big in other areas of the court on digs, blocks, serves
and receptions to lead Jamaica to a comfortable 25-16, 25-18,
25-17 victory inside the National Indoor Sports Complex.
Sashalee Thomas (10 points), Danaisha Moss (10) and Breanna
Atkinson (four) also made good contribution all round, while
Aiko Jones did a fair bit of sharing, with eight points.
I’tiana Taylor, with 12 points, was easily the visiting team’s
best player, but lacked the support to pose much of a challenge
to the Jamaicans.
"I kind of expected it,” offered Jamaica’s head coach, Dr.
Ricardo Chong, adding that his team was “a little bit of
nervous”.
Chong added: “I am also expecting the team to get better during
the tournament.
“There is always a possibility of winning the championships.
Trinidad and Tobago looked impressive during their game," he
continued, assessing their big rival. “They have weaknesses that
can be exploited, but we are going to take it one game at a
time." |
