WILLEMSTAD, Curacao, July 11, 2015 - Bonaire won the clash
against Curacao 25-16, 25-22, 21-25, 25-16 to advance to the
final of the CAZOVA Girls Youth Championship.
Barbados, who defeated three-time defending champs Trinidad and
Tobago in straight sets in the first semifinal, will oppose
Bonaire for the gold-medal at 6 p.m. tomorrow, two hours after
Curacao and T&T battle for bronze.
Bonaire’s captain Jahena Angela was the game’s leading scorer
with 18 points, while compatriot Daniela Drullard chipped in
with 11, the same amount as Curacao’s second leading scorer
Conradus.
Bonaire had the edge (24-22) in kills, blocked shots (3-2) and
service winners (14-11) in the 110-minute contest.
Curacao lost the services of another key player when Dangela
Maduro twisted her ankle and was unable to play the fourth set
after scoring 16 points in the first three.
Two of their other key players were already on the sidelines and
Bonaire coach Rudy Anthony acknowledged that his opponents were
not the same force as they were on Thursday night as a result.
Curacao’s coach Patrico Bridgewater wished Bonaire all the best
in the final and pointed that “if they play like a unit, they
have a chance.” |
