CALI, Colombia, November 30, 2021. - Brazil was
crowned champion of the Men’s Volleyball
Tournament at the I Junior Pan American Games
defeating Mexico 3-0 (25-17, 25-21 , 25-17) on
Tuesday night at the Evangelista Mora Coliseum.
Brazil´s blocking was too much for Mexico,
leading with a huge 15-6 margin; they also held
a 5-1 advantage in serves and committed fewer
unforced errors, 14 against 23. Mexico led 37-32
in attacks.
Outside hitter Adriano Fernandes led Brazil’s
scorers with 14 points on 11 kills, two blocks
and two aces. Also contributing in Brazil’s
victory was outside hitter and captain Joao
Cordeiro with 12 points followed by opposite
hitter Guilherme Sabino with 10 points.
Outside
hitter Josué López alongside Isaias Aguirre were
Mexico’s top scorers with 10 points each.
This was the second occasion in the tournament
that Brazil beat Mexico, the first was for pool
B top place in a five set thriller.
Brazil concludes the tournament undefeated with
5-0 record and Mexico with 3-2 for the silver
medal.

“We set the rhythm of the game and that’s how we
won, we made history as the first champions of
the Junior Pan-American Games. Mexico pushed us
a little bit in the second set but we controlled
them and that was crucial for our win”. |
