CALI, Colombia, December 4, 2021. - Brazil
stopped Argentina 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-20,
25-20) to move into the gold medal match of the
women’s volleyball tournament at the I Junior
Pan American Games Cali-Valle 2021.
Brazil’s impressive 20-8 huge margin in blocking
was definitely to thank for their semifinal
victory over Argentina after dropping the first
set. Brazilians also led 48-42 in attacks and
4-1 in serves. Argentina allowed fewer points
from unforced errors than Brazil (24-31).
Opposite hitter Lorrayna Da Silva was Brazil’s
top scorer with 17 points, on 11 kills and 6
blocks, outside hitter Mayara Barcelos Da Silva
contributed with 16 points, middle blocker
Lorena Viezel topped in blocks with 8 points
from her 13 total, and middle blocker Diana
Duarte added 11 points.
Argentina’s leading scorers were opposite hitter
Juliana Ocaña with 16 points and captain Angeles
Ligorría tallied 10 points, both from kills.
Lorrayna Da Silva, top scorer of Brazil:
“We are really happy with the victory. To
recover from dropping the first set, we used all
our force and teams’ strength, which
characterizes us and without it we can’t get
anywhere. In the final match we will give all we
have to finish on top”.
Wagner Luiz Coppini, head coach of Brazil:
“Our team’s anxiety was to blame for losing the
first set, naturally we began committing errors,
anticipating ourselves in key balls; Argentina
is a great team that pressed a lot. I calmed
down the team for them to stabilize, with that
they controlled the attack and mostly blocking”.
