Brazil to play for the U-18 Pan Am title
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, May 3, 2013. -Brazil advanced to the
final match of the U-18 Girls Pan American Cup defeating
Argentina 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-19) in the first semifinal
contest at Teodoro Palacios Flores Gymnasium in Guatemala.
Brazilians earned the right to play for the Pan Am title with
advantage in aces by 7-2 and stronger defense over the net by
difference of 15-10 in blocking. Argentina pushed Brazil hard
but not enough and they lost energy in the third set.
Drussyla Costa registered 16 points, 3 of them aces as Brazil’s
leading scorer and for Argentina Elina Rodriguez with 15 points
was the best.
Lorenne Geraldo was glad to reach the final match “we are going
for the gold” she said; “our serves helped us in difficult
moments against Argentina”.
Sol Piccolo congratulated Brazil “they did very well and we
fought every point and we’ll do the same tomorrow.”
“The bench players were a strong contribution to the team in
critical moments, Argentinian captain Piccolo and Rodriguez were
efficient in their attacks and hurt us” indicated Mauricio
Thomas.
“We are rivals in the court but friends outside, I wish Brazil
the best of luck and I’m pleased to see a South American team in
the final” began saying Guillermo Caceres; he added “we took
advantage of Brazil’s less intensity today but they complicated
our passing with solid serves”. |
