CALI, Colombia, December 5, 2021.- Brazil won a
spectacular five-set contest over Peru 3-2
(25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 21-25, 15-8) to win the
gold medal of the Women’s Volleyball Tournament
at the I Junior Pan American Games Cali-Valle
2021 that concluded on Sunday at the Evangelista
Mora Coliseum.
The remarkable recovery of Peru from a two-set
deficit and forcing a tie-break wasn’t enough to
stop Brazil’s ongoing blocking and strong
attacks.
Brazil led with a comfortable advantage in both
attacks (68-59) and blocks (15-7); both teams
scored 3 points on aces. Brazil committed fewer
unforced errors, 24 against 31.
Outside hitter Mayara Barcelos da Silva led
Brazil with 23 points including 20 kills,
opposite hitter Lorrayna Da Silva contributed
with 21 points, including three aces, followed
by middle blockers Diana Duarte and Lorena
Viezel with 17 and 16 points respectively.
Opposite hitter Thaisa Mc Leod topped Peru with
21 points, including 20 kills, outside hitter
Aixa Vigil added 12 points and outside hitter
Kiara Montes tallied 10 points.
Brazil ended the tournament with 5-0 a win-loss
record; Brazil also beat Peru in five sets
during the preliminary round. Peru wins the
silver medal with 2-3 record.
Wagner Luiz Coppini, head coach of Brazil:
“Peru is a great team. We had some small
problems in setting and that’s why they
recovered, in a title match you can’t lower any
skill of the game. es
un gran equipo, jugó una buena final. Tuvimos
