Broder, Valjas take second title to end season
MARACAS BAY, Trinidad, December 1, 2013 - Jamie Broder and
Kristina Valjas (CAN-A) closed out the season just as they
started the season in Cayman Islands by capturing the gold medal
in the 11th and final leg of the NORCECA Beach
Volleyball Circuit battling past Heather Hughes and Lane Carico
(USA-A).
Broder and Valjas emerged champions after a 22-20, 21-15 triumph
in the final match of the three-day tournament.
Speaking after the win an elated Valjas said it was very
pleasing to end off the year on a winning note as they endured a
tough season after taking the first tournament in Cayman Islands
way back in March.
“We knew we had to play today to get the gold medal and we also
had a tough battle in the semifinals with Mexico as well.
Broder added, “USA is always a tough battle and the final was no
different and we are glad to come out on top.
In the semifinals, Heather Hughes and Lane Carico (USA-A)
defeated Heather Bansley and Caleigh Whitaker (CAN-B) 21-17,
21-13 and Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas (CAN-A) ousted Marta
Revuelta and Bibiana Candelas (MEX) 21-16, 21-19.
