Bulgaria overcomes Cuba with spectacular comeback
LJUBLJANA, Slovenia, September 12, 2017 – Bulgaria staged a
remarkable comeback to edge Cuba in seven sets keeping the
Caribbean team winless after three rounds at the 2017 FIVB
Women's U23 World Championship.
Bugaria erased a 0-3 deficit and went on to claim their third
victory in Pool B at Hala Tivoli on Tuesday. Cuba took the first
three sets 15-10, 15-12, 15-11 only to see Bulgaria recovering
to dominate the rest of the way 15-10, 15-10, 15-11, 15-6 in one
hour and 36 minutes.
Bulgaria remains undefeated at 3-0 staying on track in the race
for a ticket to the semifinals of the championship. They've
dropped a point and trail Brazil in the standings of Pool B..
The seventh was a walkover, as
Bulgaria flew to a 5-0 lead and extended the lead to 8-2 when
the teams switched courts.
Silvana Chausheva with 18 points and Miroslava Paskova with 16
led the Bulgarian onslaught. Ailama Cese and Heidy Casanova each
scored 15 for Cuba. |
