CAZOVA Youth Olympic Qualifiers at Maracas Bay
ST ANN’S, Trinidad, November 27, 2013 - The Caribbean Zonal
Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) will hold its two-day zonal
qualifiers for next year’s Youth (Under-18) Olympic Games in
Nanjing, China on November 27-28 at the very scenic Maracas Bay.
Mushtaque Mohammed, president of CAZOVA delivered a brief
address to a jam-pack conference room at The Normandie Hotel.
Mohammed said, ‘This qualifying tournament is very important
because it’s the first time a tournament of this magnitude with
a place at next year’ Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China is
being held in CAZOVA.
“This has happen not by luck, but because of the development
programmes of beach volleyball done through NORCECA and also in
recognition of the standard of volleyball that the CAZOVA region
has aspired too.
Mohammed also thanked FIVB and NORCECA for the investment they
have made through beach volleyball in the region and anticipated
a continued growth in the sport and level of play.
Also speaking at the opening was Trinidad & Tobago Olympic
Committee president Brian Lewis along with NORCECA General
Manager, Professor Nelson Jose Ramirez.
The two-day tournament will see the winner of the men and women
event qualify automatically for the Youth Olympic Games next
year in China while the loser of the final and the winner of the
losers’ draws will both qualify to the NORCECA Second Round
qualification for a chance to qualify for China.
Among the men, host Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, US
Virgin Islands, Suriname and Bahamas are being represented while
in the women’s qualifiers, Trinidad & Tobago, Cayman Islands,
Jamaica, Barbados, US Virgin Islands and Suriname are the
participants. |
