LIMA, Peru, September 12, 2015 – FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça
F° was applauded from the stage following his ground-breaking
presentation to the CSV Congress, which was held in Lima, Peru
on Saturday.
President Graça greeted the participants of the Congress by
praising the good job that the South American Confederation has
done so far, however, he stressed “it was not enough and one
must simply continue working hard”.
He then made the inaugural presentation of the FIVB Nine Goals
project, which reflected on the three years of evolution since
his election in 2012 and then nine important goals which the
FIVB is aiming to achieve in the near future.
“The FIVB and its members have accomplished some outstanding
achievements over the past three years,” Dr. Graça told the CSV
Congress. “The FIVB has provided many opportunities over the
past three years - the number of participating teams in
international volleyball tournaments have increased, over 70% of
the 221 member federations are now participating in the beach
volleyball Olympic qualification process – there have been many
exciting new developments such as the Challenge System, LED net
and the Trophy moment, as well as innovations seen at the three
past World Championships – Poland (world record opening
ceremony) and Italy (sport presentation) for volleyball, and the
Netherlands (four cities for the first time and world record
amateur beach volleyball tournament) for beach volleyball –
which has provided a superb launch pad to go onto a superb Rio
2016 Olympic Games and Tokyo 2020 Games.
“However we must not stop and we must continue to innovate and
increase volleyball’s relevance to the international sporting
community. Entertainment plays a key part and that is why the
FIVB is focused on improving the volleyball spectacle at its
major events and will also be launching a new campaign soon
called Volleyball Your Way, which will provide greater access to
people, fans and players to play our sport and to have fun with
volleyball all around the world.”
The next FIVB Presidential election will take place at the 2016
FIVB Congress, which will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in
September and acknowledging the outstanding work that has been
achieved at the FIVB over the past three years and the exciting
future ahead, the CSV Congress unanimously by acclamation
supported President Graça for another term as FIVB President.
