Cabo Rojo is ready to receive the Norceca Tour Stop
CABO ROJO, Puerto Rico, September 16, 2014.-
A total of 64 athletes and 16 countries will compete at the VIII
Norceca Beach Volleyball Tour Stop, the local organizing
committee announced at the Press Conference held at Boquemar
Parador .
The Norceca Beach Volleyball tour that runs every year around
the countries of the North, Central American and Caribbean comes
to Boqueron Beach, and the expectations are high, according to
the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation, the Municipal Autonomous
Administration of Cabo Rojo, and The Mayaguez 2010 Foundation,
that promotes sports events after the success of the Central
American and Caribbean Games celebrated four years ago in Puerto
Rico.
Along with the host country, some other nations such as Aruba,
Canada, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala,
Guadeloupe, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, United States of
America, US Virgin Islands and Trinidad and Tobago are expected
to participate.
The local organizing committee remarked that a total of 120
volunteers of public and private schools of the Cabo Rojo area
will also support the operations of the event.
During the Conference, the Mayor of Cabo Rojo, Roberto Ramirez
Kurtz, stated that his government is ready for the event and
also his administration is decided to cooperate in the
development of sports, tourism and culture as a benefit of the
citizens. “This is a sports and cultural exchange, where the
athletes and citizens that come here will share a great
experience and camaraderie in one way or another, during these
three days,” said the head of local authority.
Youth Olympic players Lina Bernier and Valeria Cajigas will play
at this edition after their participation at the Games of
Nanjing 2014, where they finished in ninth place overall.
The Puerto Rican second national couple will be composed by
Sergio Figueroa and Arnel Cabrera. Figueroa finished fifth
overall at the games of Nanjing along with Danny Rivera.
The first couple, composed by Roberto Rodriguez and Erick
Haddock will also be part of this great celebration. Rodriguez
and Haddock are ranked third in the tour with a total of 1,120
points, while USA and Canada are the current leaders with 1,160
points.
Rodriguez and Haddock have reached the podium five times during
this year. The Puerto Rican duo has won two Silver and two
Bronze medals, as well as one gold medal in Manzanilo, Mexico.
“The most important thing here is the arrival of the citizens to
see the tournament. Last year was excellent and we expect a
better edition this year,” said the President of the Puerto
Rican Volleyball Federation, Nelson Perez.
Perez appreciated efforts conducted by the Autonomous Municipal
Administration of Cabo Rojo and the Mayaguez 2010 Foundation
that expects to have an excellent and successful program for the
Puerto Rican fans and the international visitors. |
