Split Honors with Plataneros,
Carolina Climbs to Third Place
YAUCO,
Puerto Rico, November 7, 2025. – Friday night action in the Men’s
Superior Volleyball League (LVSM) featured victories for the
Cafeteros de Yauco and the Gigantes de Carolina in their respective
matches.
At the
Pipote Oliveras Coliseum in Yauco, the Cafeteros gave it all to edge
the Plataneros de Corozal in a five-set battle, 3-2 (25-21, 24-26,
25-15, 23-25, 15-13).
Up two
sets to one, Yauco took a 12-7 lead at the technical timeout after
an attack error by Carlos Berlingeri from position two. However,
Corozal responded with an 11-6 run, including an ace from Berlingeri,
tying the set at 18 and forcing a Yauco timeout.
A 19-all
tie set the stage for a Corozal surge, as they went up 22-19 with a
one-on-one block from Jalen Penrose against Danny Rivera. Penrose
remained effective from the right side while Julio Mercedes added a
block on Brandon Rattray.
Corozal
reached set point 24-20 after a Yauco attack error and closed the
frame 25-23 with another kill by Penrose, sending the match to a
deciding fifth set.
In the
tiebreaker, Yauco broke a 9-9 tie thanks to a Corozal attack error
and an overpass that Colombian Felipe Castañeda put away. The
Cafeteros reached match point 14-12 with another solid swing from
Castañeda and sealed the victory 15-13 with a sharp attack by
Rattray from the right side.
With the
win, Yauco earned two points, improving to 4-2 with nine points
overall. Despite the loss, Corozal added one point and stands at
3-3, also with nine points.
Yauco’s
offensive trio in double figures was led by Brandon Rattray (28),
Felipe Castañeda (19), and Danny Rivera (10). For Corozal, the
import duo of Jalen Penrose and Spencer Olivier tallied 28 and 22
points, respectively.
Carolina Earns Three Points at Guillermo Angulo Coliseum
The
Gigantes de Carolina defeated the Changos de Naranjito in four sets
at the Guillermo Angulo Coliseum, with scores of 25-19, 27-25,
19-25, and 25-19, taking the full three points from the match.
With
this result, Carolina moves up to third place with a 3-3 record and
10 points. Naranjito remains in sixth place with a 1-5 record and
five points, tied with the Gigantes de Adjuntas.
Félix
Chapman led Carolina’s offense with 26 points (23 kills, 2 blocks,
and 1 ace). He was followed by Cameron Milligan and Geraldo Rivera
with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
For
Naranjito, in the losing effort, Clarke Godbold scored 20 points,
while Sebastián Negrón and Ángel Rivera contributed 12 and 10
points, respectively. |
