In on First Spot in the Finals
Caguas, Puerto Rico, April 10, 2026.- While at the Roberto Clemente
Coliseum the Santurce Cangrejeras moved within one win of advancing
to the Women’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSF) Final Series, at
the Roger Mendoza Coliseum, the 15-time champions Criollas de Caguas
defended their home court with authority, defeating the Leonas de
Ponce in the opening match of Semifinal B.
Caguas claimed the victory with scores of 19-25, 25-15, 25-17, and
27-25, to open the best-of-seven series.
The
fourth set delivered a dramatic finish. The Leonas attempted to
force a decisive fifth set by taking a 21-19 lead, following a block
by Sherridan Atkinson on Temi Thomas-Ailara (20-19) and a kill by
Claire Chaussee off the hands of the Caguas block (21-19).
However, the Criollas responded firmly: a quick middle attack by
Alba Hernández and an attack error by Chaussee tied the score. From
that point on, both teams traded ties from 22 to 25, until Caguas
closed out the set and the match with a running attack from zone two
by Diana Reyes, followed by an attack error from Atkinson on the
outside.
Caguas’ offense was led by Temi Thomas-Ailara with 22 points,
followed by Jenaisya Moore with 15 and Diana Reyes with 14.
For
Ponce, Atkinson scored 22 points, Chaussee added 16, and Abby Akey
contributed 10.
Caguas dominated in attacks (54-45), blocks (12-11), and service
aces (6-4). The Leonas held the edge in receptions (61-37) and
assists (21-18). Both teams recorded 79 digs.
The
series continues Sunday, April 12, at the Juan Pachín Vicens
Auditorium at 7:00 p.m., where the Criollas will look to extend
their lead.
In
the other semifinal, the Santurce Cangrejeras (3-0) defeated the
Juncos Valencianas (0-3) in five sets with scores of 25-20, 25-27,
25-27, 25-19, and 15-10.
Santurce will attempt to complete the sweep on Sunday, April 12,
when they visit Juncos at the Rafael G. Amalbert Coliseum at 7:00
p.m. |
