San Juan, Puerto Rico, March 30, 2015 – The Criollas of Caguas
have secured the first place in the standings of the regular
series at the Puerto Rican Women’s Superior League which give
them the home-court advantage during post-season playoffs.
Caguas and the Mayaguez Indians both have 16-6 win-loss record
with the former team totaling 50 points to 44 for the latter.
The Indians could tie with Criollas in total points at the end
of the competition but the the team based in Caguas already won
their head-to-head series.
With just one more week of action to complete the calendar, only
the first place has been decided.
Valencianas of Juncos are tied with Ponce Lionesses in third
place both with 42 points. In case of a tie, the series between
the two teams favors Ponce.
In case of a three-way tie at second place between Mayaguez
Juncos and Ponce, the Indians would be awarded the second place
with Valencianas and Lionesses in third and fourth,
respectively.
Lancheras of Cataño have 27 points in fifth position followed by
the Carolina Giants with 23 to complete the six qualified teams.
Changas of Naranjito have only three points for the season.
On the other hand, American Jessica Jones of Caguas has what
seems an insurmountable advantage in the blocking category with
103 blocks, 26 more than Yasary Castrodad of Juncos with only
two matches to play. It would be the fifth blocking title for
Jones in the Puerto Rican League.
Kristy Jaeckel of Cataño leads in points and attacks with 402
and 353, respectively, as a solid candidate to win both
categories.
Ponce’s Legna Hernández leads in serving aces with 36 while
Deborah Seilhamer of Cataño continues as leader in digs with 468
and is tied with Nayka Benitez of Ponce with a 9.59 percentage
among the liberos. |
