Canada Advance to the NORCECA Girls' U19 Final

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, July 23, 2026. – Canada secured its place in the final of the NORCECA Girls' U19 Continental Championship with a straight-set 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-18) victory over a determined Mexico team and will face the United States for the continental title.

With the result, Canada will meet the United States in the gold medal match, while Mexico and Puerto Rico will compete for the bronze medal.

Mexico displayed a strong defensive performance and challenged the Canadians throughout much of the match. Their best opportunity came in the second set, when they held a 24-20 lead and four set points to level the match. Canada, however, remained composed under pressure, rallied to win the set 26-24, and carried that momentum into the third set to secure its place in the championship match.

Canada held the advantage in attacks (35-27), blocks (11-7), and service aces (7-5), while both teams finished even with 23 points conceded through unforced errors.

Alexandra Brenner led Canada's offense with 15 points, followed by Chantels Peters with 13. For Mexico, Isabella Gallardo paced the team with 10 points, while Karen González added eight.

After securing a place in the final, Canadian outside hitter Chantels Peters said: "Teamwork, patience, and aggressive play were the keys to our victory. We have to give credit to Mexico because they have a great defense, but we were able to make good use of our attacks."

Mexico's Isabella Gallardo added: "I think we should have put even more into the match. We lacked a little attitude, and we had the second set in our hands, but it slipped away from us. Now we're going to focus on the match against Puerto Rico for third place."
