Canada Advances to the 7/8 Position Match

COLIMA, Mexico, August 8, 2025.- Canada advanced to the game for the 7/8 positions in the XXII Senior Women's Pan American Volleyball Cup, defeating Costa Rica in four hard-fought sets 3-1 on Friday, with scores of 22-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-17 at the Multifunctional Auditorium of the Morelos Sports Complex in Colima, Mexico.

Canada finished fourth with a 1-3 record in the Pool B Round Robin, while Costa Rica finished fifth in Pool A with a 0-4 record.

With the win, Canada will face Cuba for the 7/8 positions, and Costa Rica will face Trinidad Tobago for the 9/10 positions.

The Canadian offense was led by Jasmine Rivest with 19 points, while Emma Boyd, Lauryn Hovey, and Jessica Andrews each added 10. For Costa Rica, Tamara Espinosa scored 16 points, followed by Tannia Carrazo with 10.

Matthew Krueger, Canada coach: "I think Costa Rica came out ready to play, they played very good volleyball today, we came out very slowly in the first set and warmed up as the match progressed, I give credit to my girls who knew how to adapt their game to get the win and congratulate Costa Rica because they played incredibly today."

José Miguel Briceño, Costa Rica coach: "Well, today's match against Canada was quite challenging, we thought we would come from behind in this tournament, and that's exactly what happened. Tomorrow we have our last match, and we're feeling good about that game against Trinidad Tobago."
