Canada Earns Second VNL Victory

Saturday, June 6, 2026.- Canada defeated France in front of 10,500 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) fans at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Quebec, on Saturday.

Canada rebounded after a first-set loss to win 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-19, 28-26).

The crowd was a North American attendance record for women’s VNL. This after a women’s world attendance record was set in Nanjing, China, of 17,816 fans during the match between the host country and Serbia, also today.

With the victory, Canada earned its second win of the opening week of competition, improving its record to 2-1 and moving, for the moment, into sixth place in the overall standings.

Five Canadian players stood out offensively in the victory over France. Once again, opposite Kiera Van Ryk led both Canada and the match in scoring with 21 points, including two blocks. Alexa Gray added 17 points, also contributing two blocks, while captain Emily Maglio recorded 14 points, including three blocks.

Abagayle Guezen finished the match with 13 points, and Nyadholi Thokbuom added another 10. Together, these five players accounted for 75 of Canada's 99 total points.

Canada outperformed France in every team statistical category: attacks (63-56), blocks (13-7), aces (5-4), and even unforced errors, committing 18 compared to France's 23.

The first week of Women's VNL competition concludes on Sunday, June 7, with the Dominican Republic facing the Netherlands in Brasília at 11:00 a.m. local time.

In Canada, the United States will take on Germany at 2:30 p.m., while Canada will face Japan at 6:00 p.m.
