Canada Opens NORCECA Girls' U19 Championship

with Comfortable Victory

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, July 20, 2026. – Canada opened its campaign at the NORCECA Girls' U19 Continental Championship with a comfortable 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-10) victory over Jamaica in a Pool C match.

Canada took control of the match from the opening points and never allowed Jamaica to find its rhythm. The Canadians dominated the first set convincingly and maintained the same intensity throughout the next two sets, steadily widening the margin to secure a comfortable straight-set victory.

It was a one-sided contest, with Canada leading the match's key statistical categories in attacks (38-6), aces (12-0), and blocks (3-2). Jamaica, meanwhile, conceded 22 points on unforced errors, one more than Canada (21).

Makenna McCann led Canada's offense with 12 points, while Bailey Royston, Alexandra Brenner, and Kellyn Mbonjo each added nine. For Jamaica, Marissa Johnson finished as her team's leading scorer with three points.

Canada improved to a 1-0 win-loss record, while Jamaica dropped to 0-2 and sits third in Pool C. On the third day of competition, Canada and Costa Rica will meet to determine the group winner.

After the match, Canada captain Olivia Orosz said: “This was an important match for Canada because it was our first time playing together as a team, and it was the first international match for many of us. I'm really proud of how we came together, worked as a team, and executed our game plan.”

Jamaica captain Rhiann Roberts commented: “I'm really proud of the girls. We played well defensively and fought throughout the match. Although it wasn't the result we wanted, we gave everything we had on the court. I feel we carried out everything our coach asked us to do, and overall, I think we performed well, especially considering this is our first international tournament.”
