Canada Opens U17 Pan Am Cup with a Win

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, May 26, 2026.– Canada opened its campaign at the Girls’ U17 Pan American Cup with a straight-set victory over host Honduras, winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-10) at the Jorge Galeano Gymnasium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Canada and Honduras are competing in Pool B alongside Peru. On day two of competition, Canada will face Peru, while Honduras will have the day off.

The opening set was tightly contested before Canada pulled away late in the frame behind strong attacks from Naya Grimm and solid leadership from team captain Seacret Schick, who sealed the set from the service line.

Canada maintained control in the second set as Honduras struggled defensively against the Canadians’ offensive rhythm. Adeline Manning delivered powerful kills, while Honduras capitalized on opponent errors and responded with effective attacks from Valeria Castejón and aggressive serving to keep the score close. Despite the resistance from the hosts, Canada secured a 2-0 advantage in sets.

In the third set, Canada quickly established dominance with an early 7-1 lead. Schick continued applying pressure from the service line as the North Americans extended the margin to 12-3, limiting Honduras’ opportunities to respond. Canada closed the match strongly to complete the sweep.

“I am very excited about the win, it pumps me up for our next game,” said Canada captain Seacret Schick. “No matter who we play against, we will be just as aggressive as today.”

Canada held a significant advantage in kills (46-13), while also leading Honduras in blocks (7-2) and service aces (9-4). Canada granted 30 points through unforced errors, compared to 13 by Honduras.

Naya Grimm of Canada led all scorers with 18 points, while Adeline Manning and Seacret Schick each added 10 points. For Honduras, Valeria Castejón finished with 5 points.

“We fought hard in the first two sets; it was dynamic and full of energy,” said Honduras captain Valeria Castejón. “In the third set we committed too many errors at the beginning.”

At the conclusion of the preliminary round, the top two pool winners will advance directly to the semifinals.
