Canada Storms Past Suriname at NORCECA U17

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 8, 2025. – Canada stormed past Suriname 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-12) at the 2025 NORCECA Girls’ U17 Continental Championship, taking place at the Gimnasio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica.

With the victory, Canada will face host nation Costa Rica on Saturday for fifth place, while Suriname will meet Cuba for seventh place.

This marks the second time in the tournament that Canada has swept Suriname, repeating their pool-play result.

Canada had no trouble imposing their rhythm, dominating all three sets with confidence and consistency. The Canadians outscored Suriname in attacks (37-8) and service points (19-2), while both teams finished with 3 blocks each. Canada committed more errors (19-16).

Elaina Grover led Canada with 14 points on 8 kills and 6 aces, followed by Izabela Sajda with 11 points (8 kills, 2 blocks, one ace). Cherelle Meulenhof was Suriname’s top scorer with 5 points.

Ella Grapentine, team captain of Canada, said: “Tonight everyone who came on and off the court performed amazing. We had great energy throughout the match, and we performed our best. We recovered really well from a hard match yesterday. We came determined to win today.”

Cherelle Meulenhof, team captain of Suriname, said: “We played against Canada and we did much better. The focus wasn’t here.”
