RIMINI, Italy, June 23, 2021 – Canada edged
Serbia and United States swept Japan in the last
day of the preliminary round of the FIVB Men’s
Volleyball Nations League on Wednesday.
Canada came all the way back from a 0-2 deficit
to defeat Serbia 3-2 (17-25, 21-25, 25-17,
25-20, 17-15) while United States beat Japan 3-0
(25-21, 25-24, 25-20).
Ryan Joseph Sclater and John Gordon Perrin had
17 and 15 points, respectively, as the top
offensive weapons for the Canadian side. Marko
Ivovic had a match-high 20 points for Serbia,
followed by Miran Kujundzic, Petar Krsmanovic
and Aleksander Atanasijevic with 15, 14 and 12
points, respectively.
Torey Defalco led United States with 17 points.
Other big offensive contributors were Mathew
Anderson and Garrett Muguatutia each with 12
points and Maxwell Holt with 10.
United States finished in seventh place with an
8-7 win-loss record while Canada was next in
eighth position at 7-8. |
