Canada and USA with two teams in Semifinals in Bonaire
BONAIRE, Bonaire, November 2, 2024.- The two teams from Canada and
United States advanced to the men’s semifinals of the seventh stage of
the 2024 NORCECA Tour in Bonaire.
Martin Licht/Luke de Greef and Jake MacNeil/Arran Chambers of Canada
play the first semifinal on Sunday at 9:00 am. USA’s Charles
Siragusa/John Schwengel and Jake Urrutia/Wyatt Harrison meet at 9:45 am
in the other semifinal.
The first team to move into semifinals was Martin Licht/Luke de Greef of
Canada after winning their quarterfinal match against Haile-Emmanual
Turney/Dominic Durant of Barbados 2-0 (21-11, 21-11).
In pool-play earlier, Martin Licht and Luke de Greef won Pool A over
Stephen Enile/Isaac Theodore of Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 (21-16, 21-14).
The other Canadian team, Jake MacNeil and Arran Chambers, reached the
semifinals with a 2-0 (21-15, 21-13) win over William Clements/Garrett
Bucklin of the U.S. Virgin Islands
USA’s Charles Siragusa and John Schwengel, who went 3-0 in Pool C after
beating Ethy/Elsevijf of Curaçao 2-0
(21-11, 21-9), outplayed Enile/Isaac Theodore of Trinidad and Tobago 2-0
(21-15, 21-9) to win their spot in the semifinals.
Americans Jake Urrutia and Wyatt Harrison started the day with a tough
battle for first place in Pool B, beating Jake MacNeil and Arran
Chambers of Canada 2-1 (21-13, 18-21, 15-10). In quarterfinals
Urrutia/Harrisson succeeded 2-0 (21-13, 21-14) against Andy Blanco/Luis
García of Guatemala.
Earlier, second place in Pool C went to William Clements and Garrett
Bucklin of the U.S. Virgin Islands after battling hard to recover from
losing the first set to Andy Leonardo Blanco/Luis García of Guatemala
2-1 (19-21, 21-19, 15-11). For both teams this was their second match
in a row that went overtime.
Turney/Dominic of Barbados moved into quarterfinals as third place in
Pool B defeating Montenegro/Mejia of Bonaire 2-0 (21-8, 21-9).
Eddy Toro/Thelion Coutinho of Aruba prevailed 2-0 (21-15, 21-12) against
Luiyi Morales Monsalve/Savyo Antonio Benjamin of Bonaire for third place
in Pool A.
In placing matches, Morales/Monsalve/Savyo beat Montenegro/Mejía 2-0
(21-10, 21-9), both teams from Bonaire. Aruba’s Toro/Coutinho prevailed
in three sets 2-1 (16-21, 24-22, 15-12). against Ethy/Elsevijf (CUR). On
Sunday, Montenegro/Mejía face Ehty/Elsevijf for eleventh place, while
Morales Monslave/Savyo go against Toro/Coutinho for ninth place.
Turney/Dominic of Barbados won against Clements/Bucklin (ISV) 21-0, 21-0
and Blanco/Garcia (GUA) beat Enile/Theodore (TTO) 2-0 (21-13, 21-13).
TTO and ISV will play for seventh place. Turney/Dominic (BAR) and
Blanco/Garcia (GUA) face-off for fifth place.
