Canada beat Guatemala in straight sets
TRUJILLO, Peru, July 10, 2019 - Guatemala left winless the 18th
Senior Women's Pan American Cup after falling in straight sets
against the Canadian team at the Gran Chimú Coliseum in
Trujillo.
The score in favor of the Canadians led by Thomas Black was
(25-6, 25-5, 25-8) in 55 minutes of game action, in which the
most outstanding players on the winning side were Andrea
Mitrovic with 14 points, Shainah Joseph with 11 and Marie-Alex
Bélanger with Alicia Perrin who each had 10 points each.
Canada blanked its rival with 14 direct points in service, with
5 points from its setter Brie O'Reily. The winners also had wide
superiority in attack (38-5) and blocking (7-1).
Andrea Mitrovic, opposite of Canada: It's good to have been the
best scorer, but it's something I would not have achieved
without the support of my team. I think Guatemala is a young
team that is in the process of growing, and if they continue to
work hard and work, they will do very well.
Aury Álvarez, central of Guatemala: At first we were anxious,
for the third set we organized and we played much better. The
team that came for this tournament had only one week of
training, now we are much more confident for the championship
that we will play in Puerto Rico.
Canada finished the preliminary round with 19 points accumulated
in Pool A (three games won and two lost), and will wait until
the end of the day on Wednesday to know its rival in the next
stage. For its part, Guatemala is going back home without
knowing the flavor of victory. |
