Canada earns 3-0 win over Curacao in front of home crowd

MONCTON, Canada, September 11, 2026: Canada opened with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-14) win over the Caribbean Island of Curaçao today at the NORCECA Men’s Championship today at the Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.

Canada dominated in attack points (41-27), blocks 4-1 and an overwhelming 11-0 in aces. Points from errors were 18-19 in favor of Canada.

Canada’s team captain Eric Loeppky was match top scorer with 14 points (9 kills, 1 block and 4 aces). Marlison Kleinmoedig of Curacao led his team with 8 attack points.

This tournament saw the return of several of Canada’s top players, who did not play in Volleyball Nations League this year, including Stephen Maar, Loeppky and Danny Demyanenko.

Canada’s head coach Dan Lewis said: “It’s really important for us to be back on the winning column. … In this opener, the first goal of this tournament is to win the pool. The idea tonight is that they (Curacao) are very athletic, so they are going to play some dynamite spikes, so we just had to be able to manage those situations. And I want to get everybody on the court, so that’s important to break the ice for the tournament. Tomorrow will be another challenge.”

Canadian player Fynn McCarthy: “The atmosphere was good here tonight. We found a pretty good rhythm and level and we’re ready to carry that forward through to the other matches.”
