Canada keeps alive chances of reaching the Final Six
BRASILIA, Brazil, June 28, 2019 – Canada defeated Italy 3-1
(15-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18) keeping alive its chances of
reaching the Final Six Round in Chicago of the Men’s Volleyball
Nations League.
Both teams are in sixth place with 8-5 win-loss records. Italy
has 25 points to 23 for Canada. Poland is in fifth place with a
9-4 mark with two more matches to play for the teams.
Stephen Maar was the best Canadian scorer with 19 points.
Nicholas Hoag added
16 points and Ryan Sclater brought
in another 15 in a well-balanced scoring performance by Canada.
Oleg Antonov (who
was benched after the third set), Daniele Lavia and Giulio
Pinali each scored
14 points for the Europeans side.
In another match in Plovdiv, host Bulgaria defeated United
States 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23).
Tsvetan Sokolov had 20 points for Bulgaria (5-8) followed by
Nikolay Nikolov with 10. Benjamin Path had 20 for the United
States (7-6) and Thomas Jaeschke added 13. |
