Canada
on track in U19 pool play
BURNABY, Canada, May 13, 2026: Canada recorded another 3-0 win
today at the NORCECA U19 Boys’ Continental Championship in Burnaby,
British Columbia.
It
was a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-15) sweep over Costa Rica in Group A
pool play.
Although Canada made more errors 22-14, they bested Costa Rica in
attack points (45-22), blocks (7-1) and aces (9-3).
Canada Head Coach Adam Schriemer explained: “One of things we talk
about is that we have got to continue to get better over this
tournament, so we did a lot of video on ourselves yesterday on some
general system things that we can improve on, and I think that
showed today. I think our block defense organization and our
dig-to-transition kill really upgraded today, so that was good to
see. Also there were some great performances by a lot of the guys. …
We have a lot of different combinations and a lot of talent, and we
just need to figure out what combination works for us as we progress
to the important matches.”
Outside hitters Justin Jamieson (16 points) and Julien Josephs (11
points) led on the scoresheet for Canada.
Felipe Alvarado was Costa Rica’s top scorer with 9 points (7 attack
points, a block and an ace).
All
teams are fighting to end up in the top four and earn a berth to the
U19 World Championships. |
