Canada subdue Argentina, earn shot to fifth place
LIMA, Peru, June 24, 2017 – Canada relied on a terrific defense
at the net to defeat Argentina 3-1 (28-26, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19)
in a qualification match of the XVI Women’s Volleyball Pan
American Cup by Movistar at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of
Miraflores on Saturday.
The Canadian side registered 13 blocks, including seven by
Jennifer Cross, to earn a shot at fifth place of the tournament
on Sunday against Cuba. The Argentineans will play against
Colombia for seventh place
Shainah Joseph led five Canadians in double figures with 25
points, all via attacks, while Cross and Michaela Reesor each
tallied 13 points. Kyla Richey and Lucille Charuk had 12 and 11,
respectively, in the victory.
Lucia Fresco had 21 for Argentina, followed by Sol Piccolo and
Elina Rodriguez with 15 and 12. |
