Canada thinks big in return to the NORCECA
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, august 26, 2018 - A process that includes
the overcrowding and continuous improvement of coaches allowed
Canada to return to the NORCECA continental tournaments in the
U18 category, something they did not achieved for more than 12
years.
In this event, which will give two places to the World
Championship in Egypt 2019, the Canadian team arrives ready to
get a ticket.
"We did it, we managed to come to NORCECA and now we would like
to qualify for the World Championship. After 12 years since we
did not achieve it and we have never been to the world
championships for this age group, it is the opportunity for that
to be our one of the spots ", said Dale Melnick, coach of
Canada.
"We have been improving year after year and we are improving on
the roots which allows us to create programs so that we have
athletes who will start competing at a high level and attend
more and more championships, including Pan-American", said
Melnick.
“What made the difference? I think the number of people playing
volleyball. The population of athletes has increased and the
trained ones are preparing more, they are improving. There are
programs for the senior teams and our men have helped this."
"We are all over the country, just as an example in the national
club championship there were more than ten thousand
participants. That's a lot, and there will be a high percentage
of high-performance athletes", finish Melnick.
Canada has only won one bronze medal in the U18 category,
achieved in 1998, 20 years ago. |
