Canada to Defend Title at the Men’s Senior Pan American Cup
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 8, 2024. - Canada is set to
defend its title at the seventeenth edition of the Men’s Senior Pan
American Volleyball Cup from July 14 to 21 at the “Professor Ricardo
Gioriber Arias” Volleyball Palace in Santo Domingo.
Last year, Canada won the title for the first time in the Pan American
Cup history after defeating Brazil in the gold medal match 3-1 (26-24,
25-20, 25-23, 25-22) in Guadalajara. In the history of the event, Canada
had lost the title match three times (2008, 2009, 2022).
Chile achieved its first-ever Pan American Cup medal last year by
defeating Mexico in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-22) for the
bronze medal.
The Men’s Senior Pan American Cup is part of the qualification process
for the 2025 NORCECA Continental Championship, the next edition of the
Pan American Cup in 2025, and the 2027 Pan American Games.
Ten teams will take part in the competition, divided into two groups.
The winner of each group will advance directly to the semifinals. The
second and third placed teams in each group will compete in the
quarterfinals.
Group A consists of the current champion Canada, Chile, Mexico, Puerto
Rico, and the United States. Group B includes Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala,
Peru, and the host nation, the Dominican Republic.
United States has won the Pan American Cup on five occasions, Cuba four
times, Brazil three times, Argentina twice, and Mexico once.
