Canada women demolish Jamaica
MISSISSAUGA, Canada, May 16, 2014 - Canada did not disappoint
their fans today as they faced Jamaica in the third-round, Pool
S, of the NORCECA Women’s World Championship Qualification,
winning 25-9, 25-10, 25-9 on home soil.
Manitoba-native Tabitha Love led Canada with 14 points and 10
spikes, followed by Kyla Richey (11) and captain Brittney Page
with 10 points.
Jamaica’s
Tahleia Bishop
led her team with six points. The outside hitter was
born and raised in nearby Whitby, Ontario, and attends college
in Buffalo, New York.
“We were pretty prepared coming into this, and it is like
playing on our home court, which is rare for us. So we really
wanted to do well. Jamaica is very physical and athletic, so
they can always depend on that, but we were ready for them and
it worked out well today.” Brittney Page, Captain of
Canada.
“It was a good focused, concentrated performance here today.
Always the first game of a tournament is a bit unknown, but I’m
really happy with how the women played, served, and just about
everything in today’s match.” Arnd (Lupo) Ludwig, Coach of
Canada.
“Even though we haven’t been together for the longest while, we
expected to put up a fight, but we didn’t put up a good fight
tonight. So naturally we are disappointed.” – Ortnel Findlay,
Coach of Jamaica.
“I’m a bit disappointed. We came here to win. I guess we were
nervous because this is our third time reaching the third round
and we have new players coming in and joining us. Canada played
with more experience than us. I’m just disappointed, but at the
same time we have other games coming up so we just need to shake
it off and be ready for the other games.”
- Shedeiky Hamilton, Captain of Jamaica. |
