Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico and
USA Advance to Women’s Semifinals
SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, May 30, 2026.-
Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico and the United States secured
their spots in the women’s semifinals of the fifth stop of the 2026
NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour, being held at the Flor Blanca Sports
Complex in San Salvador and concluding on Sunday.
Canada’s Darby Dunn and Alison McKay were the first team to book
their place in the semifinals after defeating Costa Rica’s Marcela
Araya and Eugenia Ramírez in straight sets, 21-8, 21-16.
At
the same time, Dominican Republic’s Crismil Paniagua and Julibeth
Payano advanced by defeating Nicaragua’s Socorro López and Lolette
Rodríguez 21-9, 21-15, setting up the first women’s semifinal
against Canada.
The
second semifinal will feature Mexico against the United States.
Mexico’s Susana Torres and Abril Flores moved on after defeating
Guatemala’s Paola Alvarado and Naomi Monney 21-13, 21-13.
Meanwhile, Americans Madison Shields and Hannah Frohling secured
their semifinal berth following a hard-fought victory over Canada’s
second team of Claire Crossfield and Anna Prokofieva. The United
States controlled the key moments of the match to claim a
straight-set win, 21-13, 21-14.
The
women’s semifinals are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
In
classification matches for positions 9 through 12, El Salvador’s
Tovar and Vigil defeated compatriots Rendón and Medina 21-17, 21-13.
Dominican Republic’s Manuela Cleto and Bethania Almánzar also earned
a victory over the U.S. Virgin Islands’ Peifer and Valenciana by
scores of 21-10, 21-9.
Tovar and Vigil will face Cleto and Almánzar for ninth place, while
Rendón and Medina will meet Peifer and Valenciana in the match for
eleventh place.
In
the classification round for positions 13 through 16, Mexico’s Anna
Sofía González and María Jimena Ramírez defeated Honduras’ Elizabeth
Rodríguez and Nicolle Murillo 21-5, 21-10. The Mexican pair will
play Panama’s Valeria Lezcano and Krisleen González for 13th place.
Honduras finished the tournament in 15th place.
