Canada’s men’s team opens weekend with a win
HOFFMAN ESTATES, United State, June 21, 2019 - Canada prevailed
today over China 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 25-17) in the
Volleyball Nations League weekend opener in Hoffman Estates,
Illinois.
"China put up a fight," said
Canada’s captain Gord Perrin, who didn’t make the trip to Iran
last week. "We wanted that and we expected that. They’re a good
serving team. We expected there would be moments where we would
have to come together and get big points. We didn’t win the
third, but I’m proud of the way we came back in the fourth."
Perrin, the team captain, is looking forward to playing the host
the United States tomorrow. “It will be fun. It’s always fun.
We’ve played them quite a few times in the last couple years. I
think the last time was in Canada, so it’s fun to be back in the
USA.”
Both Perrin and teammate Ryan Sclater contributed 20 points
each, as match top scorers.
Said head coach Glenn Hoag: "We needed the points if we want to
stay in the running (to advance), and we got the three points so
I’m pretty happy with the performance.” |
