Canadian Van Ryk continues serving heaters

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 9, 2018 – Canada demolished Costa Rica 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-7) to stay undefeated at 2-0 in Pool A of the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo on Monday.

Once again Kiera Van Ryk played a stellar role in the offense of Canada by blasting a tournament-high 9 aces among her 14 points. The 19 year-old Van Ryk had scored eight winners from the service line against Peru on Sunday.

Canada overwhelmed Costa Rica in all the scoring categories with a 31-5 in attacks and 17-1 in aces to go with an 8-1 margin in blocks.

Emily Maglio and Alicia Ogoms contributed 11 and 10 points in the victory while Alexa Gray chipped in with 9 points. Tannia Carazo had 3 points for a Costa Rican team that scored 20 of their 27 points via opponent’s errors.

Megan Cyr, Captain of Canada: It was a good match for us and the young girls continue to show maturity. We took control of the match and put a lot of pressure with our serves.

Mijal Hines, Captain of Costa Rica: Their blocking was impressive and we could not manage their serves either. Congratulations to Canada. I hope we can play better in our next matches.

Marcello Abbondanza, Coach of Canada: I am happy for sure because my team paid more attention to blocking and other parts of our game. It was a good step.

Cesar Salas, Coach of Costa Rica: As a team is very important to play against opponents like Dominican Republic and Canada in consecutive days. Canada showed a powerful serve and also good blocking.
