Canadians Binstock and Schachter reach final in Doha
DOHA, Qatar, November 8, 2014 – Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter
of Canada reached their second World Tour final, less than a
week after they won their first ever Tour golds at the Parana
Open.
The Canadians enjoyed a straightforward 2-0 (21-18, 21-17) win
over Russia’s Ruslan Bykanov and Serguei Prokopiev, who were
making their debut as a team in the tournament.
The Canadian pair will face Germans Tim Holler and Jonas
Schroder who defeated France’s Youssef Krou and Edouard
Rowlandson 2-0 (21-17, 21-13) to guarantee at least silver.
Last Sunday, Binstock and Schachter beat Chilean cousins Marco
and Esteban Grimalt in the final of the Parana Open before
racing across the Atlantic Ocean to compete in Doha.
On Friday’s action, the Canadian duo beat Volkan Gogtepe and
Murat Giginoglu of Turkey 2-0 (24-22, 21-16) and Italy’s Paolo
Ingrosso and Mateo Ingrosso 2-0 (21-19, 21-19).
Doha is making its debut as a World Tour venue. Previously it
hosted beach volleyball as part of the Doha 2006 Asian Games.
The World Tour is made up of 10 Grand Slam tournaments and eight
Opens. The next and final tournament on the 2014 World Tour is
the Mangaung Open in South Africa that runs from December 9-14. |
