Canadians Binstock and Schachter victorious at home
NORTH BAY, Canada, July 13, 2014 – Canadians Josh Binstock and
Sam Schachter stormed past Puerto Ricans Roberto Rodriguez and
Erick Haddock to claim their first gold medal of the year in the
NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit with a 21-11, 21-12 victory on
Sunday.
Binstock and Schachter relied on their strong and high blocking
game to dominate Rodríguez and Haddock who were seeking their
second title of the year.
It was the third medal of the season for the Canadian team added
to their bronze and silver medals in Manzanillo and Huixquilucan,
Mexico, respectively. The silver medal for the Puerto Ricans was
their fifth podium of the year.
“We never get the opportunity to play at home so we had an extra
motivation,” Binstock said after the award ceremony. “We have
been together for a full season now and the chemistry was the
difference because at this level everybody is good. Now we have
to keep it going.”
Rodríguez/Haddock advanced into the final match with an easy win
21-14, 21-17 over Nick Tramble and James Drost of United
States-A. Binstock and Schachter climbed the ladder towards the
gold medal contest with a three-set win 21-19, 19-21, 15-12
victory over compatriots Sam Pedlow and Grant O’Gorman.
Pedlow and O’Gorman won a grueling battle of three sets over
Tramble/Drost 19-21, 21-18, 15-11 to collect the bronze medal.
