Canadians Broder & Bukovec winners in Ocho Rios
OCHO RIOS, Jamaica, June 25, 2017 – Jamie Broder and Sophie
Bukovec of Canada-A concluded a perfect weekend by dominating
Cubans Lianma Flores and Yanisleidis Sanchez 2-0 (21-18, 21-7)
in the match for the gold medal at Ocho Rios Beach Volleyball
Tournament, the third stop of NORCECA Circuit.
The North Americans advanced to the dispute for the gold after a
victory over compatriots Helen Rancourt and Sarah Meunier-Bedard
2-0 (21-19, 21-17) in one of the semifinals after going
undefeated through Pool B and winning five matches in total.
Lianma and Yanisleidis advanced to the title’s match after
defeating Karissa Cook/ Katherine Spieler (USA-A) 2-0 (21-12,
21-14) in the penultimate phase of the event.
Cook and Spieler claimed the bronze medal by defeating Rancourt
y Meunier-Bedard 2-0 (21-18, 21-13).
In her debut in the circuit this year, Bukovec expressed her
pride for winning alongside Jamie, a multiple winner in the
circuit with different partners and ninth at the Olympic Games
2016 with Kristina May.
“Thanks to NORCECA Circuit I have been able to develop, win the
continental cup and reach Rio de Janeiro, an incredible
experience since my family and friends accompanied me to
Brazil,” Broder said.
Sophie recalled that “when I was 16 I knew about the circuit,
now coming back at 21 the triumph is beautiful. We prepared well
and we will be also in the next stop in Varadero, a location I
know as a vacationer, so now will be different.”
