Canadians start off on the right foot in Punta Cana
PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, September 15, 2017 – The two
female Canadian pairs won their two matches on opening day at
Punta Cana Beach Volleyball Tournament, the fifth stop of the
2017 NORCECA Circuit, on Friday.
Julie Gordon and Sophie Bukovec and Megan Nagy and Marie
Lapointe were joined by the United States team of Delaney
Knudsen and Corinne Quiggley as the teams with 2-0 win-loss
records after day one of the competition.
In Pool A, Gordon/Bukovec began their day with a cruising 21-9,
21-6 victory over Jaquez/Berroa of Dominican Republic-C and came
back in the afternoon to edge Mexico’s Stephanie Burnside and
Paulette Cruz 16-21, 21-14, 15-12.
In Pool B, Nagy/Lapointe crushed De la Cruz/Miller of Dominican
Republic-B 21-5, 21-1 and then scored a 21-11, 21-16 over Puerto
Rico’s Aury Cruz and Ashley Vásquez.
In Pool C, Knudsen/Quiggley of United States-B upset Jace Pardon
and Lara Dykstra of United States-A 21-12, 21-17 and scored a
21-8, 21-8 victory over Julibeth Payano and Camila Moneró of
Dominican Republic-A.
