Cangrejeras Advance to LVSF Final After Four-Hour

Marathon and Two Power Outages in Juncos

JUNCOS, Puerto Rico, April 18, 2026 – The Cangrejeras de Santurce became the first team to secure a spot in the Final Series of the Women’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSF) late Saturday night and into early Sunday morning, after defeating the Valencianas de Juncos for the fourth consecutive time to complete a sweep in Semifinal A.

To clinch their qualification, the Cangrejeras had to dig deep and extend the match to a decisive fifth set in a contest that lasted four hours due to power outages at the Rafael G. Amalbert Coliseum and nearby areas.

The match was interrupted twice: the first came in the opening set at 9:00 p.m., with Santurce leading 18-16. That delay lasted just over 40 minutes. The second stoppage occurred at 11:45 p.m., right before the start of the fifth set, and lasted approximately 30 minutes.

The Cangrejeras prevailed with set scores of 25-22, 25-22, 16-25, 25-27, and 15-12.

Juncos forced a fifth set by capitalizing on a service error by Wilmarie Rivera that tied the fourth set to 25. A service ace by Kaleigh Nelson followed, along with a zone-four attack by Leandra Mangual to close the set in favor of the Valencianas.

In the fifth set, Santurce raised their level of play, executed precise passing, and took an early lead, pulling ahead 10-5 after a soft tip by Helena Grozer from zone four.

The victory was sealed at 15-12 with a cross-court attack by Andrea Rangel against the opposing block, also from zone four.

Santurce’s offense was led by Andrea Rangel with 29 points, followed by Helena Grozer with 22 and Kara McGhee with 11.

For Juncos, Kaleigh Nelson led with 22 points, followed by Leandra Mangual and Haley Bush with 17 each, in addition to Marcelle Báez’s 13.

In team statistics, Santurce held the edge in attacks (69-60), blocks (13-10), digs (95-79), receptions (39-34), and assists (17-11). Juncos led in service aces (10-4).

Santurce now awaits the winner of Semifinal B, where the Criollas de Caguas lead the series 3-2 over the Leonas de Ponce.

Semifinal B will play its sixth match this Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the Juan “Pachín” Vicéns Auditorium, home of the Leonas de Ponce. A win by the Criollas would secure their spot in the Final Series; otherwise, both teams will face off in a decisive Game 7 on Wednesday at the Roger Mendoza Vidal Coliseum.
